Kilsby is situated in 3.5 acres of private land

Much of this ground is managed sympathetically to wildlife as semi-wild woodland and to preserve uninterrupted views of the glorious Irfon Valley.  A tremendous variety of birds visit our numerous feeding stations and nesting boxes including the small but impressive spotted and pied fly-catcher. Tawny Owls and Sparrow-hawks visit the garden regularly and Red Kites, Buzzards, Ravens  and Peregrine Falcons are frequently seen overhead.  Other interesting species seen in the gardens include slow-worms, the common lizard, badgers, hedge-hogs, bank-voles, brown long-eared bats, pole-cats and numerous butterflies.

Highlights of the cultivated gardens include extensively planted herbaceous borders, a large rockery, a fine collection of free-flowering Rhodedendrons & Azaleas, a bog-garden with moisture-loving plants and wildlife pond, a small raised fish pond and a butterfly garden where you can sit and enjoy hordes of Lepidoptera in late summer as well as a busy bird-feeding station.

The most colourful time in the garden is spring when for an extended period swathes of snowdrops and crocus are followed first by brilliant yellow daffodils and then a glorious display of colour when the large collection of azaleas and rhodedendrons come into their own. The heady scent of wild garlic, honeysuckle and philadelphus fills the air right into early summer.
